Technological advances have created economically viable solutions to the complications of well-control methods that are created by subsea blowout preventer systems. Further, wells are being drilled in waters deeper than ever before, and subsea technology has made it possible. New methods and equipment have changed the face of offshore drilling to allow companies to drill into ultra-deep waters. Without new techniques and equipment, the oil industry would not easily be able to tap into the offshore reservoirs that reside in formations lying below the deep waters of the world. Because of the growing development of deepwater oil and gas fields, employees aboard floating rigs must be familiar with the specific problems of well control and understand how blowout prevention equipment and riser systems communicate with wells on the seafloor.

This new training manual not only describes marine riser systems and subsea blowout preventers, but also explains how they operate, how they are used, and how to install them on typical offshore floating rigs. Moreover, it provides basic well-control principles to orient offshore personnel to the purpose of the equipment. Readable language, clearly labeled illustrations and photographs, a glossary, and helpful self-test review questions aid the reader in comprehending the material. This book replaces Subsea Blowout Preventers and Marine Riser Systems.
