CIE works with City of Austin to promote small businesses

CIE’s Professional Development Center (PDC) and the City of Austin continue to collaborate to promote the growth of small business with the Small Business Development Program (SBDP). The SBDP provides counseling, assistance and training to help small business owners and budding entrepreneurs get off the ground and succeed.

On June 9, 2011, five Austin entrepreneurs came together at City Hall to accept proclamations and congratulations from the Austin City Council for completing SBDP’s Business Success Skills Certificate program. This is the second group of SBDP students to complete six classes and receive these awards thus far.

Established in 2009, the SBDP program continues to grow with classes in twenty-three different topics, including how to write a business plan, explore financing options, find investors, manage credit and debt, learn the fundamentals of HR, and create the best marketing plan to grow your business.

Not only does this program provide participants with the building blocks to start and sustain a successful business, it’s also a great way to network with other small business owners and employees. The instructors, provided by PDC, have subject matter expertise, previous training experience and knowledge and experience owning and running small businesses themselves.
