Colleen Wells gets ahead with UT Online High School

“I enjoy learning and I enjoy school, but there are so many interruptions in public school. The Online High School allows me to forge ahead on my own pace and go deeper into my studies.”

Colleen Wells is a highly-motivated, advanced student enrolled in the UT Online High School. Her motivation comes from a great eagerness to learn, to achieve good grades, and to excel in school so that “all of my higher education options are open to me.” The Online High School is a good match for Colleen because she feels as though the coursework is challenging and allows her to delve deeper into subjects without the distractions of everyday public school life. “There is less room for goofing off or wasting time when the responsibility of understanding the material is completely up to you,” says Colleen. “Taking self-paced courses with the Online High School helped me grow up. I realized that finishing the work and graduating high school is completely my responsibility.”

Colleen combines her school schedule with a 9-to-5 work schedule. “Taking courses with the Online High School allows me to work during the day at jobs that are more career-forward than the typical after-school job. Now, I can enhance my resume and gain more valuable career experience. I’m excited about the prospect of college and I’m ready to get started on my higher education studies.”

Fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Online High School was authorized by the Texas State Board of Education in 1998 to provide distance learners with a high school curriculum and to award diplomas. The program currently offers more than 48 courses in English, social studies, mathematics, science, foreign languages, health, computer applications, physical education, economics, and electives. The Online High School provides an educational alternative for students who want to earn a high school diploma and either need or prefer the flexibility of distance education to complete their course work.
